The Data Governance Forum is a completely independent, not for-profit organisation dedicated to sharing and promoting best practice in Data Governance. The Forum is exclusively open to practitioners at end-user organisations. The Forum organises a series of events throughout the year to bring practitioners together over key current and emerging issues in data governance practice.
Founded by Paul Lindsell and David Reed, the Forum has no ongoing commercial sponsors. Most meetings are generously hosted by existing Forum practitioner members. Larger events, such as the Annual Conference, are hosted by a commercial sponsor – at arms length. The Forum is in regular liaison with the Information Commissioners Office, in particular the Business and Industry Group.
The Forum now has over 900 members from the country’s leading financial services, retail, leisure, utilities, telecoms, IT, consumer brand, publishing, public sector, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and many other sectors.
Hosted by members, the DGF Annual Conference takes place in Manchester and London each year.
Our most recent conferences, kindly hosted by The Co-op and Barclays earlier in the spring, attracted lively attendance to its full day of plenary sessions, mainly presented by member-practitioners themselves.
Selected presentations from the conference are now available from our speakers and can be accessed in this section.
Throughout the year, the DGF organises a series of small events for members, designed to encourage interaction and best-practice sharing on very specific issues. In the past, these have covered highly strategic areas, such as ‘Taking the importance of data governance to senior management and the Board’, through to highly focused practitioner subjects such as ‘Privacy statements – managing the transition to opt-in while maintaining marketing volumes’.
Each event is organised by the founders, but hosted and led by a DGF member organisation. The Forum makes every effort to liaise with sector specific groups promoting best practice in data governance, so that there is no overlap in subject matter being organised for the DG community.
The Forum also runs and manages a closed LinkedIn Group for members to be able to share ideas, ask questions, and request introductions to other members for best practice sharing. The founders control, monitor and manage the Group to ensure membership security, best standards of behaviour and probity, and to act as a discreet filter to broker member introductions.
In the last year, the Group has had the pleasure of acting as a vehicle to bring together specific elements of DG practice between organisations in banking, central bankin g, insurance, charitable enterprises, retail, media & telecoms, hospitality, and more.
The increasing challenge of recruiting high quality data governance management professionals.
